We’re thrilled to share that electric gates fall into the energy efficient category, using (on average) less electricity than a kettle.
How much electricity do electric gates use?
When on standby, electric gates will on average consume approximately 100 watts (w) of electricity a day. When active, they can use up to 700w a day.
When active, their running time is limited to approximately 20 seconds. This means every cycle of your gates adds 0.2 pence to your energy bill.
To put this into perspective, the average kettle is between 2 and 3 kilowatts (kw). This can translate to costing up to £58.40 per year (16 pence per day) if you boil a full kettle 4 times a day. Read more here.

How are electric gates operated?
Visitors can gain entry by using an intercom system. These systems are either hard-wired to a physical handset/s in the building, or they can be wireless through GSM (meaning the call from the intercom is made to a landline or mobile phone/s). The answerer is then able to have a conversation with the visitor and open the gates remotely.
Regular users can open the electric gates using fobs, keypads, remotes or an app connection- depending on which works better for them.
Servicing
We recommend between one and two service visits a year for automated gates, depending on the usage. Our in-house, qualified engineers carry out an array of works to ensure your gates remain in excellent working order.
