Boris talks about raising wage levels in the UK by keeping out foreign labour. What madness is this? Is this what us Brexiteers voted for?
To me, the point of the Brexit terms and leaving Europe was to reclaim the ability to shape our destiny without interference from Brussels and part of that ability should include allowing skilled foreign labour into the country. In the 1990s we started employing both sales and engineering staff from South Africa. In the 2000s more than 30% of our engineers were migrants from Poland, recently we have taken on some highly-skilled engineers from Eastern Europe.
Jeremy Speaks Out on Brexit Terms
We look for people with the necessary skills and who are committed to their work. Now we are struggling to employ more top-notch engineers. They are out there in foreign climes but are no longer welcome here. Is this a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face?
